  • COACHING: Mastering Motivation: Activate Inner Drive to Become Self-Motivated

Welcome back to The Sarah Centrella Show! SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Audible or anywhere you get your podcast. Mastering Motivation: Activate Your Inner Drive to Become Self-Motivated I'm baaaack! After nearly two years away, I'm relaunching my podcast and am excited to bring you this short coaching episode on mastering self-motivation. Today I'm sharing the 4 most common reasons why people struggle with getting or staying self-motivated, and HOW to overcome them. When I conducted a poll on my social media, people ranked these four in this order: 1. Being consistent 2. Getting started 3. Desire (wanting it bad enough) 4. Clarity of vision (what's the best case if this thing happens?) But the truth is, this list is all upside own, which probably explains why you may have struggled to stay motivated, or become self-motivated. If you flip this list and take the coaching advice in this episode you'll see how much easier it is to stay motivated. 1. Get a clear vision -You can't achieve anything if you are not clear on what it is you want and how it will look and feel to live it in real life. In your journal ask yourself these questions: What is my desired end result? (Be specific) What is the BEST case scenario of that outcome? What is the moment I am most looking forward to when it comes true, or when I've achieved it? (Be specific) How would that feel to be living that moment? What impact would it have on my life when it's achieved? What if anything would change? What makes me excited when I think about this thing being accomplished or coming true? 2. Desire. Desire is the ultimate way to be self-motivated, it fuels your motivation. When you want something bad enough, you find a way to make it happen, right? But most people skip this step, or THINK they want it, but haven't actually nurtured the idea long enough, or in the most productive way to create genuine and burning desire. How bad do I want this to come true? Why do I care if it does or not? How will it make my life/me better? How will it impact the people I love? Or will it? Do I want it MORE than I want things to remain as they are? What are the benefits to achieving this goal or living this dream? 3. GET STARTED. When you want something bad enough, allow yourself to daydream about it often, there comes a point when you need to take action! 4. Consistency. When you set yourself up for success on the small things, that adds up to BIG wins... you create a positive environment for consistency to grow and thrive naturally. Stack your wins, when you do you'll naturally be so much more motivated to show up regularly and keep doing 1-3 small things each day, those will move the needle. This leads to building confidence, creates momentum and fuels your desire every day. Here are my 2 tips for becoming self-motivated: 1. Make a master list of EVERYTHING you can think of that relates to the thing you want to do/accomplish. This is a massive brain dump. Don't categorize it or overthink it, just get it all out of your head and on paper. Keep it someplace where you can easily add to it as you think of new things. 2. Make a "Today I Will" list. Pull 1-3 things off your master list every day, and make a short list each morning. Make sure these are things you know you can accomplish or make measurable progress in on that day, so that you can cross them off the master list. If this episode and journal work was helpful, please be kind and spread the love! • Mind Lab: Change Your Thoughts to Change Your Mindset

*This is an unedited excerpt from my upcoming book, ThinkIT: The Mind Lab. How to Change Thoughts to Change Mindset. Thoughts + Action = Results What I’m about to teach you is not rocket science. It’s not positive thinking. It’s not New Age feel good fluff, or a cool slogan like mindset is everything, on a yoga shirt. This is common sense. You’re about to learn a logical process for training your thoughts to start getting what you want and stop getting what you don’t. In other words, this is HOW you change your mindset. I call it brain training, and you’re about to create your very own Mind Lab. Just like every other muscle in your body, your brain needs training and regular workouts to stay on track and deliver peak performance. But most people are like I was in 2007, with no idea how to control all the conscious and subconscious unhelpful voices in their head. Yes, we all have them, layers and layers of voices telling us all kinds of crazy bs that isn’t true or beneficial to our mental or physical wellbeing. They say humans have on average 60,000-80,000 thoughts a day, that’s a lot of internal voices trying to tell us what to do, what to believe, who to be angry at and why, what to be worried about, how to feel about ourselves etc. It’s a lot. Even though our brain is a muscle that needs to be worked, shaped, and toned to get desired results, most of us were never taught how to do this. There was PE (physical education) when I was in school, but no ME (mental education), and most of our parents didn’t teach us tools for controlling our thoughts either, so what’s a person to do? If our arms are flabby and we want them toned and buff, we know that going to the gym and lifting weights, or hiring a trainer, and/or changing our diet, will over time, likely result in our desired buff-ness. So, as a rule we know what to do about all the other muscles, how did the most important one get left out of our education? It’s not your fault, we didn’t know better, but moving forward we will. When first I started trying to learn how to change my thoughts well over a decade ago, I did what most people do… I went out and bought a few books. I started with the ones Oprah recommended (because she is my guru!), the Lousie Hay, Esther Hicks, Eckhart Tolle books on Law of Attraction and the power of our thoughts… and I quickly felt very mentally deficient. I could not understand a thing they were trying to say! To me it seemed like they talked in circles, or in a foreign language, my brain could not comprehend, or translate anything I read into practical application in my life. And no disrespect to any of those amazing thought leaders, they just didn’t speak my language and I needed the concepts broken down in a way I could understand. I quickly became frustrated because everyone was saying things like, just think positive! Or change your thoughts, change your life. Or positive vibes only. What even is that? The slogans and soundbite quotes were endless, but where was the HOW? I kept thinking, HOW do I think positive? Does it mean I just go around all day saying, “You’re fine. Everything’s fine.” Because that wasn’t working, it hadn’t solved any of my problems or changed how I felt. It was like putting a Band-Aid on a bullet wound, a surface solution at best. I wanted REAL answers, real solutions, I wanted to know exactly what to do and when, so that things in my life would begin to change. And so, I hacked the system. I figured out how our thoughts work on my own, by breaking down the process into simple incremental, tangible steps that anyone can understand and use to get results. I tested them, coached them, lived them, and tracked their results both for myself and with my clients. My goal has always been to keep this simple, applicable and results driven. Even a child can use these tools. I’ve taught all three of my children starting at a very young age, how to talk to themselves and how to change their thoughts as they’ve gotten older, and I’ve witnessed the power it has given them. And before your inner skeptic kicks in, let me say that I’m confident you’ve already used ThinkIT throughout your life to get things you’ve wanted in the past. Unknowingly of course, most people don’t understand the process they’ve unconsciously gone through to achieve a goal, or get a desired outcome, therefore they struggle to replicate it. But when we stop to analyze any past success, we will see that it always started with a thought, also known as an idea. Now you’ll have the formula, which you can cut and paste to get anything you want, or onto any thought you don’t want. Our thoughts are the genesis of all action, and action delivers results. They are continuously creating future outcomes, both good and bad, positive, and negative, the process is exactly the same either way. I realized long ago that my negative thoughts looked exactly like my reality. The correlation was impossible to ignore. Everything I’d been telling myself for years, kept happening again and again in real life, that of course, created my belief system. Wait, let’s back up a little and dig into the real source of our thoughts… our beliefs. READ PART 2: How Thoughts Become Beliefs Ready to take your life, career, goals and yourself to the next level? • My Women's Retreat in the South of France: Big Dream Manifested

My France Women's Retreat. I just returned last night from hosting my first women's retreat in France, and let me tell you, my head is still spinning! This was an absolute dream come true. I don't know about you, but I've always dreamed of traveling the world and doing bucket list adventures with a like-minded group of women, ones I could be my unfiltered self around and who would enjoy the same types of things that I love. But I didn't have that. So I CREATED it for myself in my women's retreat (s) and it's been above and beyond the dream manifested! If you know me, then you know I am passionate about 4 things My children, I love giving them new experiences and showing them the world. My coaching, and teaching people (women especially) how to live their dream life. Traveling the world. Cooking. So I created something truly unique in my women's retreat that is a mix of all those things! This is my second women's retreat (last year Italy was my first), and they are truly a personal curation of the things I love the most. Last year I was able to bring my daughters with me, and will again for this year's Italy and next year's Greece women's retreat (s). At both last year's women's retreat, and this year's, moms have brought their daughters and nothing makes me happier than a woman teaching her daughter that she can DO ANYTHING! **If you'd like to bring your daughter and share a room with her, email team@sarahcentrella for special co-occupancy pricing. I've had so many fantasies about life on the French Riveria, going back to my early twenties when my obsession with Italy and France began. The old-world glamor of it has always been so enticing, and the "once in a lifetime" type experiences are unparalleled, so I went for it! Created a small 5-day women's retreat for 4 women with a bit of everything. I rented a house in the Province countryside in a town that just so happens to have some of the best Micheline Star restaurants in the world. It was a town I'd never been to and a villa I'd never seen, so with that, there is always a bit of risk. You PRAY that the photos online of the villa match the reality, and I gotta say this place did (except for the EXTREMELY dated kitchen, bedrooms, and bathrooms), but that's what REAL travel is like, and that is one of the important things I teach the women who attend, how to travel in REAL LIFE and roll with it because when you travel abroad there is always going to be surprised. But the views and the outdoor living were all that mattered and far outdid my expectations! ONCE IN A LIFETIME Live-List Experiences! For our first live list experience I booked a day on a sailboat, sailing around the islands of Cannes, because how could you be on the Mediterranean and NOT do that?! It's been a HUGE dream of mine, present on countless #futureboards for YEARS. This was hands down a top 10 day of my LIFE!! It was everything I'd dreamed of and more! Jumping off the sailboat and swimming in the Mediterranean, total heaven. Watch my REEL of this day. For our second experience, I booked a private perfume workshop, because when you are in Provence, the perfume capital of the world, of course you are going to make your own perfume! SEE OUR REEL. LET'S TALK ABOUT THE FOOD! The other BIG part of any trip or retreat I plan is THE FOOD! I'm a total foodie and I love to cook with local ingredients so cooking and eating out is always going to be a big part of any women's retreat I host. When we cook, we do it TOGETHER, everyone helps in the kitchen, helps set the table, and cleans up after, and through it all I teach some of my best tips and hacks for cooking and entertaining. When we eat at the villa I try to prepare and have on-hand foods everyone will enjoy and have full access to, when I run to the store, I'll pick up your favorites (if they have them) because that's how I do! The fridge will always be stocked with yummy fresh food, snacks, cheese, meets, and drinks, and the coffee will always be ready! All of that is included. When we leave the villa and decide to eat in town, that is not included. Watch my retreat FOOD REEL. On our first full night at the villa, I hired a private chef to make us a 6-course meal, which was mind-blowing! And he did an amazing job of taking care of our non-gluten and non-dairy guests. SEE IT HERE. I also love photography and making women feel beautiful and capturing their trip in a way that feels special, so I teach my photoshoot tips and document their trip for them so all they need to do is sit back and enjoy. Our little photoshoots are my favorite, showing women just how beautiful they are, it's amazing! But don't worry, these are always optional! This trip was an amazing mix of all the things I love, with women I adore and I'm so grateful for their trust and belief in me, and for the friendships we've formed. Join me for your own adventure this October in Tuscany Italy, or next May at my Greece women's retreat. Or, if you prefer to travel with me privately for an emersion coaching/travel experience, you can book a private tour to any place in the world you wanna go! • How I Lost 25 lbs by Changing My Mindset #SelfPrideChallenge

How I Lost 25 lbs by Changing My Mindset with the #SelfPrideChallenge In July of 2019, I was miserable. Quite honestly, over the previous six years, I'd completely let myself go, and the result was shocking. My health was at risk, I was tired ALL the time, and I had no energy or confidence. The voice in my head was constantly reminding me how horrible I looked and felt, chastising me for allowing this to happen. My "come to Jesus" moment came one sunny afternoon as I sat in my backyard and caught a glimpse of myself in the sliding glass window (you can see that photo and my before and after pictures HERE I don't wanna put them in this post as I don't need to be haunted by them on Google images for the rest of my life!). I just remember looking at my reflection and asking myself, "Where has your pride gone girl? You used to give a shit!" That was the moment I KNEW something needed to change if I wanted to be healthy, live my best life, reach the success I was working hard to achieve, and feel my best. But how? I'd tried every diet known to man, I'd done every workout program under the sun. No matter what I'd ever done, I never lost weight. I'd resigned myself to the belief that maybe my body was the one body out there that would not respond to anything I tried. I thought about that for a minute and realized that I'd said those words to myself a million times, "no matter what I do, I will never lose weight." It suddenly dawned on me that this had become a mantra of sorts, and if there is one thing I KNOW for certain, our words and thoughts predict our outcomes. Had I been predicting that outcome all along? Manifesting it? But it's true, I told myself, the facts back up the statement. How can I change the facts? What if, I thought, I ONLY work on changing that belief? What if I stopped saying it, stopped believing it was true, would the result change? That's the day my #SelfPrideChallenge was born. It became my mission to change my beliefs and see if by doing so, maybe my outcomes could also change. Throughout my life, whenever I'd started a new diet or exercise program I'd always done the traditional things we'd all be taught to do; I weighed myself and set a goal weight, I identified a new pants size I wanted, or set goals for the inches I hoped to lose, I went on strict eating plans, counted calories, eat only fat, eat no carbs, eat no fat... like I said I did everything we've all been told to do. This is how I lost 25 lbs. by doing things MY WAY. Here are my three tips on how I changed my beliefs, found my motivation, got healthy, built my confidence, and how I lost 25 lbs., in the process. TIP #1: I FOUND MY MOTIVATION And it was NOT to lose weight. It was NOT to drop clothes sizes or any of the other things I'd set as goals in the past. I knew I needed to find my personal, customized motivation in order to make a sustainable change. So, I started by asking myself, WHY? Why I didn't like myself, my body, or my life the way it was? WHY did I want to change it? Then I wrote a list of all the reasons why I was miserable and specific things I wanted to change in order to make my daily life better. Things like, I want to walk upstairs and not get winded, I want to get in pictures with my kids and not hide in the back, I want to wear a tank top, I want to be able to touch my toes in yoga class, I want enough energy to make it through the day without taking a nap, I want to say yes to things that I am currently turning down because I don't want people to see me this way, I want people to be able to post pictures of me that I don't want to hate them for! My list had over 30 items on it like this and many that were way too TMI for me to disclose here! Now, I want you to do the same thing. Get a journal and a pen and answer these questions, they are the ones I asked myself. What don't you like about how you look and feel today? Be VERY specific, list every detailed thing you can think of. Why/how do those things negatively impact your life? What would your life be like if those things changed? How would I feel? What would you be able to do if they changed that you can't do now? What are all the things you WANT to feel when you are in your new body? Be specific, think of the moments and experiences you'd love to have when you're feeling and looking your best. This list is so important because it creates customized motivation and measures your progress in a way that affects your daily life in the most impactful way. Each item you get to cross off from this list is meaningful to you because it represents the change you personally identified as being deeply important to you. It's MUCH more effective than reaching a number on a scale that can fluctuate day to day. By crossing these items off, you KNOW your life is changing for good, and you're recognizing every little win that SHOWS you how the quality of your life is improving day over day, which is extremely motivating. WATCH A REEL I DID ON THIS. TIP #2: I COMMITTED TO DAILY MOVING MY BODY -With a REALISTIC goal I'd done all those New Year's resolutions in the past, the ones where I'd written, work out for an hour a day, five days a week, and they never worked. They just made me feel like a failure because I wasn't successful in sticking to that plan, hence they continued to feed the negative voice in my head who constantly told me what a, fat lazy piece of shit I was. Not helpful. This time I asked myself, what can I commit to? If my goal was to get healthier and feel better, then the baseline for this was moving my body. So, I started there. Ok, now what kind of exercise do I KNOW I can do every single day, regardless of the weather, or my schedule, and for how long? Ask yourself this same question. The most IMPORTANT part of this is to set yourself up for SUCCESS, meaning you need to pick something you KNOW you can do every single day, for at least 30 days. It can't be too hard or you'll quit. It can't be too much time, or you'll talk yourself out of doing it on days when you "don't have time." It MUST be easily achievable. I picked walking. I knew I could walk the dog, or walk in the house if I had to, I KNEW I could keep this promise to myself and just move my body for 20 minutes a day. That was it. Setting yourself up for success is the absolute key here. You want to feel the "win" every time you accomplish this, it's a very important part of building trust in yourself, creating a lasting habit, and achieving long-term success. And the best part? It organically sets you up for bigger and bigger wins! Because there will be days when you lose track of time and you do a 40-min walk instead, WOOOOHOOO! Winning! The longer you stick with it, the better you'll feel, the more energy you'll have, and the more NATURALLY motivated you'll be to give a little extra. This is EVERYTHING people! Instead of battling the voice in your head each day to get up and "workout," or get motivated, you'll slowly start WANTING TO DO MORE. I started with walking just 20-min a day, that's all I did for several months. Then I started wanting more (which in itself was shocking), I was ready to step it up because my energy was coming back and so was my confidence. Then I started doing a Barre3 class a few times a week, I did that for about 18 months. Eventually, I got bored, and was ready to up-level again. In 2022 I joined a gym and began doing cardio classes, weight lifting classes and yoga 3-5 times a week, and actually LOVING it. By this time working out was something I looked forward to, something that was a non-negotiable in my daily routine, something that felt good. It was also starting to pay off, my body was changing dramatically and my mindset had completely shifted over the past three years. This was NOT a quick fix or an overnight transformation, it was a natural and gradual progression, it was a LASTING change to who I am, how I think, and how I operate on a daily basis. WATCH MY REEL ON THIS HERE TIP #3: I ALIGNED MY MINDSET WITH MY DESIRED OUTCOME This was of course the biggest game changer for me. It was the element I'd never done before and the one that produced the results. I began using mottos and mantras every single day to retrain my brain and remove the old negative beliefs. I started saying things like: I LOVE my body! My body responds quickly and easily to the work I'm putting in! The weight is falling off! I feel sexy! I have so much energy! I said these all day every day, and especially when I did my workout. These felt completely fake in the beginning because they were all things I DID NOT believe. However, slowly, over time that began to change. I stopped having to fight the negative voice in my head, the one who'd torn me down my entire life because it was slowly being replaced with this new one. The new one encouraged me to show up each day for myself and was proud of the progress I was making, she was encouraging, supportive, and filled with hope for the future. As a result, my self-confidence grew and I began to feel 100% better, inside and out. My body began to change as well. Not overnight, but the progress was noticeable and felt amazing as I began checking off the items on my list. As of today, I've lost 26 lbs, nearly 3 pant sizes, I can wear that tank top and swimsuit with pride, I have shoulder and arm muscles for the first time in my life, and I feel better than I've felt in 15 years! I am the fittest I've been in over a decade, I don't have the health problems I did when I started, and I have energy. I feel amazing! It has completely changed everything about how I feel and how I show up in my life, my business, for my kids, and even opened me up to finding love. • What Has Italy Taught Me? Women's Italy Retreats

What Has Italy Taught Me? Women's Italy Retreats Interested in joining me for one of my small group international retreats? CLICK HERE. I write you this note from the balcony of our adorable AirBnB in the tiny Amalfi town of Minori, on the Italian Riviera (words I can't believe I get to type!). It's our last day in Italy, which of course makes me sad. This place, especially the Amalfi Coast, feels more like home to me than any place I've ever been in my entire life. It's hard to explain, but it's a feeling of soul connection, and I guess it makes sense considering my ancestors come from these hills. This trip planted a new dream in my heart that will be showing up on my upcoming #Futureboards I'm gonna buy an apartment in this town one day soon, with a view of the sea, so I can bring my kids and future grandchildren back to this place, year after year. Just putting those words out there! God, so where to begin? What has Italy taught me this time? At my women's retreat last week in Tuscany (watch our REEL here), we started and ended each day talking about the lessons we were learning on the trip, and what those tangible lessons might mean in the broader scope of our lives. We found that each of us had been given a physical lesson (like being outside our comfort zone or losing luggage), that translated to deeper meaning. My lesson on this trip has been patience. It's a lesson I am forever working on and a big personal fault of mine, so Italy has thrown many little "patience lessons" at me to test my ability to show up differently. I'm not getting it down perfectly, that's for sure, but I am getting it. Italy always teaches me the value of life. It reminds me what joy actually FEELS like. What happiness tastes like. It slows me down and I notice EVERYTHING, the red fishing boat bobbing in the harbor, the old man sitting on the chair outside the barber shop, the old women sewing on the balcony eves-dropping on all the conversations below. It reminds me that TRUST exists in an entire culture, not just in a person. Italians are so trusting, they trust you to tell them accurately what you ordered at the restaurant when it comes time to pay the bill, because they probably didn't keep track. They trust that you'll come back and pay them after you've been using their canoe all afternoon. They trust fellow beach goers to leave their Gucci bags and personal effects alone while they spend the day in the sea. They trust. They give. They share. They aren't worried about a thing! Travel, and Italy in particular, has taught me so much. Where would I be in my life at this point had I not done the most scary thing imaginable in 2016 and booked our first flights to Italy? I can't imagine. I know for a fact that I would not be here, in this moment, that's for sure. I would not have met nine amazing women here last week for the trip of a lifetime. Their trip has forever changed them too, now they will pass it on, which fills my cup to overflowing. Which brings me to a few questions I have for YOU... When was the last time you did something for YOU? Something you've dreamed of doing for years, maybe all your life? When was the last time you took a chance and stepped WAY outside your comfort zone? When was the last time you tested your limits? PROVEN to yourself how strong you are. Met new life-long friends? Spent 5 days with your mentor? When is the last time you let go of control, and allowed yourself to be OPEN to what the Universe was trying to teach you? When was the last time you felt loved and accepted by total strangers? When was the last time you felt UTTER JOY? When's the last time you INVESTED IN YOU? I challenge you to make TODAY that day. If you've been watching my social media stories, then you've seen my Italy retreat last week on my Facebook and Instagram. You've seen me this week in Amalfi living my soul's joy with my daughters, and you're about to watch us do the same in France in a few days... So I ask you... Why do you keep thinking..."Good for her, but I could never do that!"? What is your reasoning? Because I can promise you, you will NOT ever remember it AFTER you take a trip with me! You'll only remember the transformation, the joy, the once-in-a-lifetime moments, the friendships, and the pride you feel in yourself. • My BIG Italian Dream is About to Become Reality: Women's Italy Retreats

As you know by now, Italy is my place, it's my souls home. It awakens parts of me that I never knew existed, and generates so much joy and passion. It was that passion that lead me to plan my very FIRST retreat in Italy last October, just two months after returning from our trip last summer. I thought, if I could share the gift of Italy with women from around the world, women who otherwise may never go, and combine that with my coaching, what a perfect week that would be! My BIG Italian Dream is About to Become Reality: Women's Italy Retreats And now, that week is about to begin, I can't believe it's here already, and my god, I can't wait! Right now, women from across the US are flying in to join me and my daughters in a private villa in Tuscany, starting tomorrow, a dream five years in the making, coming true for the first time in just a few short hours. For the past several months the women have gotten a chance to know me, and each other, on our monthly Zoom calls, a place where we could connect and they could ask questions to help plan their individual trips. I did this to help relieve the anxiety we can all face at the thought of staying for a week in a house with total strangers! Now, none of us will be strangers, we will instead be friends meeting in person for the first time, embarking on a bonding week like no other. When we come together in a few days we'll build on our existing connection to make lasting friendships and create transformative life changes through deep coaching. I've worked hard to make that process as painless and easy for them, from giving advice on everything from where to fly into and out of, what train to catch, how to navigate transportation, what to see, how to get the best deals, how to make the most of their trip, what to pack, what to do before and or after the trip... all of it. Everything I've learned the last 8 years in my International travels. My goal and vision for my guests is that they experience the power, magic and empowerment of traveling alone as a woman. There is nothing like it, and it's something many women will never do. It's badass, and I'm so proud of them for taking on this exciting challenge! I can't freakin' wait for all of it to begin! Go follow me on Insta @sarahcentrella and watch my stories each day, I'll show you my Italy. And then NEXT YEAR girl, I think it should be YOU headed to the villa to meet me for OUR retreat! I've set up a 12-month payment plan, so if you RESERVE YOUR SPOT NOW, you'll get the advantage of that 12/month lower monthly payment. Each month that get's closer that amount amortizes over fewer months, so NOW is the time to sign up if you want to join me next summer! • 3 Questions to Ask Yourself that will Lead to All the Answers

Here are 3 Questions to Ask Yourself that will Lead to All the Answers. One of my tricks to finding the answers I'm looking for in just about any given situation, is to ask myself critical questions. In times of stress, anxiety, overwhelm, frustration, lack, struggle, fear or just about any other negative emotion, our natural tendency is to focus on what's going wrong. The problem with this is that the more we focus on it, the more our brain begins to obsess and spin out, to the point where all we can see is our current situation. Of course this only makes the problem bigger and the situation worse. Whenever I begin to feel this way, I pause and ask myself a critical question. This helps me take a breath and search for the solution, rather than focusing on the problem. It helps me scope past the current situation, and see the bigger picture. It also helps me regain control when I might otherwise feel powerless or out of control. These questions work like magic to help us find the answers we seek. They provide guidance, direction and provide action items to get our power back. 3 Questions to Ask Yourself 1. WHAT DO I CONTROL? This question is everything! It is the fastest way to get out of a negative tailspin, and begin focusing on what's within our control, vs. what's not. Use it whenever you are feeling: Overwhelmed, frustrated, helpless, the victim of a situation, like everything is spinning out of control, like there's no solution to a given problem, when you can't see a way forward, when you can't find a solution to a problem, when you feel like you have no agency or choice in a situation, when a relationship is feeling toxic or negative. How to use it: When those thoughts begin to spiral, pause and get a pen and piece of paper and write down two columns. At the top of column A, write: "What about this is within my control?" (This being the thing, person or situation). At the top of column B, write: "What is outside my control?" Then start brainstorming. No matter the situation, you will find items to list in both columns. Remember you DO NOT control other people or their actions. You DO control whether you allow them to treat you badly, this is boundaries and boundaries are OUR responsibility. You don't control if life throws you a bad curveball, obstacle, setback or adversity. You DO control how you react to it. Once you have at least 2 items on the "what do I control" side (and if you try hard enough you should have several more then that), then your task is to immediately begin taking action on those items. If the only thing you control is your own energy and attitude about something, then start changing your mindset immediately about it. Use mottos, mantras or write out the outcome you want. Put ALL your focus there, be relentless at this task, you'll soon find that the problem seems more manageable, things begin to change and momentum starts moving in your favor. 2. AM I BEING A GOOD STEWARD OF WHAT I HAVE? This is the perfect question to ask yourself if you are going through financial hardship OR want to manifest financial abundance. I believe that the Universe can and will deliver insane financial abundance to anyone who puts in the work, intention, gratitude and practices an abundance mindset. My Centrella Method has been teaching people how to do this for over a decade, so I know it works. But, I also believe that we need to show "good faith," first. We need to change our behaviors and make better financial decisions if we expect to get new results. So, start by asking yourself question #1. From that, you'll have a list of things related to your finances that you CAN change. What can you do differently? Then ask yourself: How can I be a better steward of what I have? For instance, where am I bleeding money and how do I stop that bleeding right now? Where am I paying too much for things and what can I do to change that? Am I paying fees and fines for things because I've been too lazy to take care of them on time? Where is money running out the door, and how do I close that door? Write all these down. Brainstorm. Look at your income and expenses. How could you increase income and decrease expenses? Do you have a wealth plan? Even if you have zero to invest, you could start with $20 on Acorns or Robinhood. So, start. Get that going. Show that you're willing to skip on the Starbucks and instead invest that $20. Prove you are good with the money you have so the Universe will trust you with more. Because, here's the facts. If you can't manage what you have today, the problem will not solve itself with more money, you'll find yourself in the exact same position, trust me. So, you need to be a good steward NOW. Be grateful for what you have, grow what you have so you can begin manifesting more and more, and with each financial gain you'll be growing wealth as a result of the changes you've made. 3. HAVE I LOST SIGHT OF THE VISION? Whenever I feel frustrated, like I'm hustling without results, or feel a "funk" coming on, that's my clue to ask myself: Have I lost sight of the end-game, the vision, the dream? In other words, have I been focusing so much on my current reality that I've forgotten why I'm doing it all in the first place? I always tell my clients that we need to focus equally on today as on our future dream outcomes. If we don't spend time daydreaming about what life will be like when we've achieved our desired outcomes, then we get easily discouraged and bogged down by the weight of everyday life. We need that mix of vision and reality. We need the reminder that all the work will pay off, and what that payoff will look like, how it will feel and how it will change our lives. That's what keeps us going. So, if you're feeling unmotivated, frustrated, uninspired and stuck, its probably because you've stopped focusing on that end-game vision. What's it all for? Where are you going? What is waiting for you when you reach those goals and get that desired level of success? Know the answers to these questions. Spend some time writing the vision for your future, what will it be like in 5 years when you have everything you want? How will your life change? Why will it feel so good? Who will be there with you? What will you have or be able to do then that you can't now? Daydream about it. Get re-fired up about it! I hope this helps you get to some of your critical answers. These questions are ones I ask my clients VIP Members every day, and I see how they lead us to find our answers and give us power and control where we'd otherwise feel lost or defeated. If you found this valuable, please return the love by sharing it. Ready to take your life, career, goals and yourself to the next level? • How to Embrace Your Story it's Your Biggest Asset

The following is an excerpt from my new book All the Things I Wish I Knew, available for pre-order, release date October 4, 2022 How to Embrace Your Story How to value your biggest asset. Your story is your greatest asset. It’s the one thing that is uniquely, you. It’s something no one can take from you, or replicate. It is your competitive advantage. When I first started blogging in 2009, I did so anonymously. My blog Thoughts.Stories.Life., was the one place I could entirely be myself, unfiltered and real. It was the only “person” I had to talk to about all the shit going on in my life. It was how I sorted my thoughts and tried to make sense of past. It’s where I was honest about how hard things were, and how much I was struggling to put my life back together. And it’s where I started sharing my dreams and my plans for the future. All of that was terrifyingly personal, and I never intended for anyone to discover, it was me. And then one day, on my first business trip to New York City, an article I’d written and submitted (I thought anonymously) to a huge website, was published with my name. It was my whole story, my divorce, the fact that I was really a broke single mom struggling to make ends meet, that I had all these dreams and how some of them were beginning to manifest, all of it. The article went viral almost immediately. I remember sitting in my hotel room with the Google alert, panicking. I felt exposed and terrified of the repercussions. I just knew I’d lose my job. But I was there to work, so I pulled myself together and went downstairs to meet a favorite client for lunch. For whatever reason (the Universe knew what it was doing), I opened up to Bill. I told him the whole story, sharing my fear that the public knowing my story, would end me. He looked at me and said, “Sarah, that is your story? I had no idea. That is an incredible story!” “Thanks, but what do I do about it?” I trusted his advice, he is a big time lawyer after all, I knew he’d give it to me straight. “You own it!” He said. “You own your story, Sarah. You don’t run from it, you embrace it. It’s incredible what you’ve been through and how you’re trying to put your life back together and it makes me respect your hustle and character even more. That is your asset, own it.” I’ve gotten a lot of incredible advice in my life, there’s been several times when I’ve sat across from someone and in the moment, knew I was receiving life changing advice. But this was by far the #1 piece of wisdom anyone has ever given me. It changed my life. I would not be here today without it. That advice helped me get comfortable with my story and changed how I viewed it. It was no longer something I was trying to run from or hide, it wasn’t this giant embarrassing secret, it was my past and I was intentionally creating a new future in spite of it. I learned how to be proud of that, and not ashamed. It takes a while to see your own story in this light, but when you do, things can shift in the best possible way. We all have a story, maybe yours is dramatic like mine, maybe not, it doesn’t matter, either way you have a past that has taught you something. What is it? How have you grown or evolved from it? COACHING In my life coach training program, I teach new coaches how to identify and share their story, and here are some of those tips. What are some of the big highlights of you past? Is there adversity you’ve overcome? If so, what? Have you achieved something unique, great, special? How did you do this? What are things you’ve learned from past experience? Did something happen to you in the past that you’ve learned how to move on from? How did you accomplish this? What is your “before” and “after”? Looking at your story from this angle may really help you put it together. Or what is your “before,” and what is your dream-case “after?” That can help you identify your desired outcomes. What part of your story could others relate to or learn from? How can you share your story in a way that others see a reflection of themselves? Answering these questions will help create a framework for your story. Then write it as a two-page descriptive essay, this will help you include the details and make it more captivating. Start with the “before” how things used to be, how you used to feel, and then describe how things are now (or how you want them to be). Re-read and re-write this story many times. Leave it for a week or two and re-write it again. Once you’ve gotten this two-pager tight, meaning it’s condensed and powerful, and says everything you’d like to convey, then write a paragraph version of it. Do the same thing. Condense it down, make it strong. Read it aloud. Send it to a friend who will provide meaningful feedback and adjust if needed. And then at some point, you must set it free. Put it out into the world and trust that everything will be okay. It will feel uncomfortable, exposing, raw, formidable and maybe even embarrassing, but those feelings soon fade. Once you own your story it’s only hard to share the first few times you do it in each format. The first time it’s out there in print (like a blog or social media post), the first time you speak it out loud (to someone, on a podcast or in front of an audience), and the first time you see or hear someone else share your story (like a bio or intro synopsis, an interview or article), those are the hardest. But believe me it gets easier each time. Now I can talk about my story with no emotional attachment whatsoever, I’ve shared it at nauseam, so it just rolls off my lips, that was certainly not the case in the beginning though, so give it time. Whatever your story is, whatever you’ve overcome, chances are millions of people have been through the same thing and will take comfort, relate, or learn something from your bravery in sharing your truth. PRO TIP: You can also do this for specific parts of your journey. For example, with my coaches, they start out writing their story as it relates to “before” they learned the HBRMethod™ (the tools I teach) and “after.” This helps to identify and convey where they were before, how they felt, what they struggled with, what they wanted to change, and then how their lives have changed after.
