- COACHING: Procrastinating is Costing You More than You Think
What Has Procrastination Cost You? Why Procrastinating is Costing You More than You Think. I've got a serious question for you... what has procrastination cost you? I recently wrote a post giving the Top Reasons why People Fail. Procrastination was one of the items that many people (myself included), struggle to conquer. Procrastination is an area of my life that I've known needs improvement, this wasn't new to me. But there's something about seeing it on the list why most people fail, that got to me in an urgent way. If it's something that actually causes FAILURE, then shit! I need to fix that ASAP! You feel me here? Read that post and do the homework, then you know what procrastination is costing you. Here are a few examples: If you procrastinate getting your oil changed in your car it can lead to much more expensive issues down the road, right? We know this! Yet we still procrastinate getting it changed! This is how you MANIFEST bad shit happening to you! By putting off the small things that you KNOW would prevent a bigger disaster. Can you think of some similar examples in your life? I sure can! For example, I got a parking ticket last summer, and stashed it in a drawer to; "pay that" (but without urgency). And what happened, that same ticket now costs me 4x as much! Ok, you get the point! But procrastination can affect every area of your life, not just your finances. It can effect your business, your relationships, your home, and your ability to control stress and effectively manage your life. Here are a few tips I'm implementing that I think might help you too. When you get a message that needs a response (email, text, voicemail whatever). The moment you read it, DEAL WITH IT. I know it might take 2 whole minutes to respond, but DO IT. Right then! Make it a habit. Get it off your plate right then and there. If you CAN'T do this (your driving or otherwise physically can't) then DON'T READ THE MESSAGE! That way the little blue dot that indicates the message has not been read will be there to remind you to deal with it. Set 30 minutes aside twice a day (afternoon and evening) to respond to everything at once. When you've told yourself you will do something (workout, eat right, drink water, whatever), set a specific time to do it. Put it in your calendar with all your other important meetings and DO IT. Don't question it, don't make an excuse. Just DO IT. The same way you'd show up for a work meeting, show up for yourself! Here's the thing, procrastination is one of the biggest sources of stress and anxiety in our daily life. Why? Because all day, every day we carry our little mental lists with us, in our overtaxed brain. And that WHOLE TIME we are mentally beating ourselves up for not having it done. This leads to a lot of negative shit that you don't want in your life! So deal with things at the moment, so your brain can open space to enjoy your life! Here's the thing, procrastination is one of the biggest sources of stress and anxiety in our daily life. Why? This leads to a lot of negative shit that you don't want in your life! So deal with things in the moment, so your brain can open space to enjoy your life! Ok... hope that helps. It's helping me be more on top of things and I hope it helps you too! Make it a positive and productive day! - COACHING: How to Effectively Self-Advocate to Get Your Voice Heard
How to Effectively Self-Advocate to Get Your Voice Heard with Sarah Centrella. FREE COACHING in this episode! Today on my podcast, The Sarah Centrella Show, I'm sharing some exciting news for the first time, and 6 tips on how women can effectively self-advocate. Girl, you’ve gotta speak up. Here’s the raw truth, if you don’t self-advocate, you can’t complain when people take advantage of you, treat you unfairly, or walk all over you. That’s the hard truth. It’s no one else’s job to stand up for you or look out for your best interest, that’s a, you thing. If something seems unfair, or unreasonable to you, say so. I know women are sometimes scared to speak up for fear of being labeled “bitchy,” or a “Karen,” or whatever other derogatory name is popular at the moment, but there’s a way to be heard without being that bitch. Being able to speak up for yourself is such an important part of a successful, happy life. It affects every aspect of your life whether you realize it or not. If you don’t speak up when someone does you wrong in a professional sense, you likely don’t advocate for yourself in relationships either, or business, or at school, etc. The financial and emotional cost of this silence can be massive. This can be a huge block to success, love, and financial abundance. There are so many areas of life where this is key, that I thought it best to share a few examples and then give some general tips on how you can begin self-advocating. EXAMPLE #1: In 2015 I took a job as a mortgage loan officer for a large company while awaiting the release of my first book. The manager who hired me said the position would be commission only. Part of this seemed normal to me because I knew commission is how you make money in mortgages, but the other part (my gut) knew that couldn’t be right. I was treated like a full-time employee, with all the expectations and none of the pay, something was defiantly off. I asked my co-workers if that seemed normal and they all confirmed, “that’s just how it is.” I double-checked with my boss. Everyone seemed ok with it. This is the moment I had that choice, the one we all have. I could have gone on working there like all my co-workers and just sucked it up, or I could do something about it. I called a lawyer. I am going to stop my story here to make sure you really get this. In 2015 I was a full-time single mom responsible for a family of four, who was waiting for my first book to come out and therefore had made next to nothing on that front, who at the time had no savings and had a job that didn’t even pay minimum wage. To put it bluntly, I could not afford to hire a lawyer. But I knew that in many cases you don’t need money upfront if you have a strong enough case, and so I called. As it turns out, the lawyer took my case and I won. The money from that settlement funded my trip to Italy with my children in 2016. I never paid a penny out of pocket for my lawyer. But the part of this story that really matters to me, is that because my case was successful, other employees were able to bring a class-action lawsuit which was also successful, ultimately forcing the company to stop that practice. Most people don’t stand up for themselves thinking it’s going to make a bigger impact, I know I didn’t, but it can. All it takes is one person to fight for what’s right, and that can change the president for others as well. I share this specific example because I KNOW women make a lot of untrue assumptions that keep them from getting what they deserve. I’ve told this story and had women say, “I would have never done that because I thought that ‘big business’ always has more money and more lawyers than me, so why bother?” Or because “I can’t afford a lawyer.” Stop assuming things! Go ask. Make an appointment. Bring facts. Ask questions. Do NOT take no for an answer. And for god’s sake, stop passing up opportunities to get what you deserve. Speak up. EXAMPLE #2 I am constantly reminding my kids of their responsibility to speak up and self-advocate, I believe it’s something we should teach them young. I always tell them; you can’t complain to me about a bad grade, and not say anything to your teacher. It doesn’t work that way. I remember when my son Kanen, was in 8th grade, he wrote a paper that he felt strongly was graded too harshly. He came to me with all the reasons why he believed he deserved a better grade. “Great!” I said, “go tell your teacher everything you just told me.” We went over his reasons again, compared them to the teacher’s requirements assembling his argument so he’d know exactly what to say. I reminded him that no matter what the teacher decided, we would accept the outcome, what mattered was that he’d done his best to be heard. That was one of the first big lessons in self-advocacy Kanen took on by himself, and it worked. He made a strong case, and the teacher could see where he’d missed giving Kanen points and changed his grade. Kanen knows now that it’s always best to have that conversation, no matter the outcome. State your case, and if it doesn’t go your way, at least you know you’ve done everything in your power. Okay, so I know that there are a million different situations and scenarios where you can and should self-advocate, everything from relationships to family to business, and I get that each one is a bit different, but here are some general tips for how to stand up for yourself and get your voice heard. These tips are the key to presenting (and winning) your “case.” I learned this the hard way from a duche boss many years ago. He used to put me on the spot about everything, intended to humiliate me. I’d get a few sentences into answering his questions or explaining why I’d done something, and he’d cut me off. “No one is interested in the whole story Sarah. Get to the facts. I don’t care about feelings, give me the facts.” Honesty, that was some of the best advice I’ve ever been given. 1. Keep it clear and simple. Explain the situation as simply as possible, leaving out unimportant details. 2. Watch your tone. You know the saying; you can catch more flies with honey? Well, bring out the honey girl! Ask for what you want in a tone that doesn’t come across as threatening or angry. In other words, start with kindness. 3. Know your facts. When relaying (or re-relaying) the situation, keep the summary short and to the point, but full of all the important facts. 4. Be clear about what you want. There should be no doubt as to what you are asking the other party for, how can they correct the situation? 5. Where appropriate, ask if there is anything you need to do to expedite them correcting the situation, or to make it better. 6. Remember that if they are unwilling to hear you out and fix it, you always have options; you can take your business elsewhere, you can walk away, you can leave a poor (truthful) review, you can get a lawyer, you can share your feedback on social media. Chances are if you are having a bad experience (with a company or service) others are too, and your honesty in speaking up can help more than just you. There are always options that are better than silence. - COACHING: Mastering Motivation: Activate Inner Drive to Become Self-Motivated
Welcome back to The Sarah Centrella Show! SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Audible or anywhere you get your podcast. Mastering Motivation: Activate Your Inner Drive to Become Self-Motivated I'm baaaack! After nearly two years away, I'm relaunching my podcast and am excited to bring you this short coaching episode on mastering self-motivation. Today I'm sharing the 4 most common reasons why people struggle with getting or staying self-motivated, and HOW to overcome them. When I conducted a poll on my social media, people ranked these four in this order: 1. Being consistent 2. Getting started 3. Desire (wanting it bad enough) 4. Clarity of vision (what's the best case if this thing happens?) But the truth is, this list is all upside own, which probably explains why you may have struggled to stay motivated, or become self-motivated. If you flip this list and take the coaching advice in this episode you'll see how much easier it is to stay motivated. 1. Get a clear vision -You can't achieve anything if you are not clear on what it is you want and how it will look and feel to live it in real life. In your journal ask yourself these questions: What is my desired end result? (Be specific) What is the BEST case scenario of that outcome? What is the moment I am most looking forward to when it comes true, or when I've achieved it? (Be specific) How would that feel to be living that moment? What impact would it have on my life when it's achieved? What if anything would change? What makes me excited when I think about this thing being accomplished or coming true? 2. Desire. Desire is the ultimate way to be self-motivated, it fuels your motivation. When you want something bad enough, you find a way to make it happen, right? But most people skip this step, or THINK they want it, but haven't actually nurtured the idea long enough, or in the most productive way to create genuine and burning desire. How bad do I want this to come true? Why do I care if it does or not? How will it make my life/me better? How will it impact the people I love? Or will it? Do I want it MORE than I want things to remain as they are? What are the benefits to achieving this goal or living this dream? 3. GET STARTED. When you want something bad enough, allow yourself to daydream about it often, there comes a point when you need to take action! 4. Consistency. When you set yourself up for success on the small things, that adds up to BIG wins... you create a positive environment for consistency to grow and thrive naturally. Stack your wins, when you do you'll naturally be so much more motivated to show up regularly and keep doing 1-3 small things each day, those will move the needle. This leads to building confidence, creates momentum and fuels your desire every day. Here are my 2 tips for becoming self-motivated: 1. Make a master list of EVERYTHING you can think of that relates to the thing you want to do/accomplish. This is a massive brain dump. Don't categorize it or overthink it, just get it all out of your head and on paper. Keep it someplace where you can easily add to it as you think of new things. 2. Make a "Today I Will" list. Pull 1-3 things off your master list every day, and make a short list each morning. Make sure these are things you know you can accomplish or make measurable progress in on that day, so that you can cross them off the master list. If this episode and journal work was helpful, please be kind and spread the love! - COACHING: The Best Work-From-Home Routine & Morning Routine for Productivity
Welcome back to The Sarah Centrella Show! SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Audible or anywhere you get your podcast. The Best Work From Home Routine & Morning Routine for Success and Productivity. On today's short coaching episode, I'm giving you my work-from-home routine and morning routine, ones that took me several years to figure out and master and they have changed everything. So, I hope this helps you to quickly make adjustments to your daily schedule so you don't have to take several years to figure out some of these habits. Morning Routine I set my alarm 30-min earlier than I want to, to make sure I am not rushing through this routine. Before I get out of bed I say 3 positive mottos to set the tone for the day I splash my face for a minute with cold water. I say my "I am statements" while I brush my teeth. I eat breakfast I schedule my workout at least a week in advance, by signing up for classes at my gym. But I have the time permanently blocked out on my schedule. Work-From-Home Routine I get fully dressed for the day and get "camera ready," whether I have Zoom meetings scheduled or not. Meaning I do my hair and make-up daily. This makes sure I'm always ready for anything the day brings. I set and respect my work hours. My work day begins at 10:30 AM and ends no later than 5:00 PM. I normally meditate for 30-min as a "break" in my afternoon. I schedule tasks and block off days/times for specific business tasks, like marketing, prospecting, social media, content creation, and all the operational tasks. I keep a "master list" or "brain dump" list of everything I need to do and keep it on my desk. Then each day I pick a few things off it to complete. This helps keep my head clear of all the "don't forget to do...." crap! At 5:00 PM I shut everything down and close the door to my office. I change my clothes and put on a playlist to help my mind transition into "off-work" mode. Evening Routine I make sure that I get OUT of "work mode" as quickly as possible, so I can release the stress and transition into a new mental state. I do things that make me happy like cook dinner, play a happy playlist etc. In the evenings I watch my favorite shows and never check work emails or do work. Here's a REEL I did on my time-blocking. Respecting the boundaries in your life is EVERYTHING. It takes work, and time to implement, but the rewards are so worth it. I hope this work-from-home routine and daily routine helps! - COACHING: How to Get Out of a Funk and Feel in Control
Welcome back to The Sarah Centrella Show! SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Audible or anywhere you get your podcast. In today's coaching episode, I'll be sharing my tried and true, 4 Tips for Get Out of a Funk, Feel in Control and Jump-Start Positive Energy. It happens to all of us… and when I’m feeling “out of sorts,” frustrated, down, or like I’m "in a funk," these are the things I do RELIGIOUSLY to move out of it as quickly as possible and get back into the positive energy flow that will manifest my desired outcomes. My 4 tips to get out of a funk 1️⃣ CHANGE YOUR VIBE: Guided meditations are the fastest way to change your energy and get out of a funk. I love the ones on YouTube where you can search for some on any topic, I normally start with an “energy alignment,” or a chakra cleanse. If I'm really in a bad energetic place, I do one of each twice a day for at least a week. It doesn’t need to be more than 10 min, but if I really need it, I’ll fall asleep to a longer one. Favorite Guided Meditations I've linked some of my favorite ones here, but remember you can search any topic you need on YouTube or your favorite meditation app. Energy Reset Positive Energy to Raise Your Vibration Complete Chakra Healing Meditation Balancing 7 Chakra for Healing Energy ABUNDANCE: Abraham Hicks Instant Money Manifestation "Manifest Money Fast -15 min" "Abundance Meditation -Bob Proctor" "Financial Miracles in 1 Week!" Abundance Guided Meditation Release Stress & Anxiety Guided Meditation for Anxiety Guided Meditation to release stress, anxiety and depression "Health, Wealth, Happiness and Abundance" Attracting Love Become a love magnet! Open to Love Improve your relationship Confidence & Self Love Guided 15-min Meditation for Confidence 10-min Meditation for Clarity and Confidence Hypnosis for Self-Love and Confidence 2️⃣ CHANGE THE VOICES IN YOUR HEAD Use the tools in #thinkit (the 2nd step in my book Hustle Believe Receive) to change those negative voices causing and enabling the funk. Read my post and listen to my podcast: Mental Tennis to learn exactly how to do this. Learning how to control your thoughts is the single most important and impactful thing a person can DO to change their life. It's something you are can control and get better at over time. Practice Mental Tennis every day, it's a game changer! It is your ticket to quickly get out of a funk. 3️⃣ FOCUS ON EVERYTHING YOU DO CONTROL Write a list of everything you control about the situation at the root of the "funk." Remember you ALWAYS control at least these things: What you choose to focus on about the situation. How I choose to talk about the situation. Whether or not I am using my tools (aka the previous 2 steps) Whenever you put your focus and attention on things you do control, it automatically helps you let the rest (everything you don't control) go. And that is HUGE! It's one of the fastest ways to get out of the rabbit hole and get out of a funk. 4️⃣ FOCUS ON THE DESIRED END RESULT Lastly, (and this is the key) write out your ideal dream outcome to whatever is bothering you. What if it all magically went RIGHT? How would that feel? What would be great about it? Then read it OFTEN and daydream about those moments when everything is going your way and your dream outcome has manifested. Learn how to Write Your Life Plan Story. Learn how to focus on the desired end result by reading my post The Power of What If. Here's the FREE Manifesting Journal I mentioned. And you can grab a copy of my book #Futureboards here. Bottom line… we manifest what we focus on. So, if what you’ve been thinking about isn’t making you happy, you probably don’t want to manifest it, right? This is why it's so critical to change your thinking and focus to what you DO WANT instead, and these steps are how you practically do that. Do these 4 things next time you're feeling "meeehhh" and I promise, they will help you get out of a funk! If you are interested in being coached by me, apply for my 2024 Elite Mastermind cohort. - COACHING: The Do's and Don't of Communication with Sarah Centrella
Welcome back to The Sarah Centrella Show! SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Audible or anywhere you get your podcast. The Lost Art of Communication: The Do's and Don't of Communicating This brief coaching episode is all about the lost art of communication! I'm sharing my Do's and Don't when it comes to communication, why? Because humans have forgotten how to communicate with each other and it annoys the shit out of me! And I feel like we have a responsibility to show up as humans in our communication even though AI would like to make us lazy and unthinking robots and do it all for us! I talk about texting, social media, listening skills, why you should be a "responder," how AI can help and hurt us, and more. The Do's Do ask questions -Be curious! Do respond to people using YOUR WORDS! Acknowledge what the person said to let them know you heard them Show/express empathy Be an "opener" and say things like "Tell me more," or "What do you mean?" or "Can you explain that or give me an example?" All of those open up the conversation and help you get to know someone better. Do use preface statements to become a better communicator and listener: things like, "This is what I'm thinking...." or "This is how I feel about x" or "here's what I need..." And then ALWAYS follow up with a question that lets them respond and tell you what they are thinking, how they feel and what they need etc. The Don'ts Don't be a "closer!" Don't just respond with an answer to the question (if a person is trying to get to know you for example), after you answer it, volley the question back by asking, "What about you?" Make sure your responses aren't closing down the conversation. Don't make all communication about you! Don't ignore!! Is there anything more universally rude than this? BE A HUMAN! If someone took the time to reach out, RESPOND. Don't rely on emojis and reaction responses to be your communication, USE YOUR WORDS! Nothing worse than taking the time to use your words and have them be met with a "like" or a "heart." Don't just be the "responder." Are other people the ones doing all the work to keep your connection, relationship or friendship alive? If you're only responding, then that means you're not holding up your end of the relationship. Don't demand, ask. So, if you've become a little lazy in your communication maybe this will be a good reminder, or send it to someone you know, or to your teens... I just hope this helps us get back to some of the basic ways of connecting with each other that is respectful, empathetic, and genuine. - COACHING: Mental Tennis -The Ultimate Mindset Hack to Change Your Thoughts
Welcome back to The Sarah Centrella Show! SUBSCRIBE on Apple Podcast, Spotify, Audible or anywhere you get your podcast. Mental Tennis: The Ultimate Mindset Hack to Change Your Thoughts, Beliefs, and Outcomes In today's short coaching episode, I'll teach you Mental Tennis, the ultimate mindset hack and my most popular tool for changing your thoughts and beliefs. I began coaching this tool in 2014 and it's one of the three tools in the ThinkIT step of my Centrella Method in Hustle Believe Receive. It is by far the simplest and most effective way to get control of your thoughts and change the underlying beliefs for good. But as with all things, it will only work if you PRACTICE IT, so begin using it immediately! You can use it for any topic it works the same with everything from thoughts on relationships, self-worth, self-beliefs, money, career, body image... you name it! This tool does two powerful things 1). It stops the negative thought from manifesting its negative real-life equal. 2). It creates a new positive outcome that didn't exist before. So, be diligent! Practice it with determination and relentlessness. Soon the negative thoughts will recede and the positive ones will begin taking it's place, creating a new belief. That new belief will drive brand-new results. Step 1: is to recognize your thoughts. Believe it or not, most thoughts go unnoticed they just run in the background noise of our mind, so just hearing them in the first place is a win! It's an exercise in being present. Step 2: When you hear the thought, ask yourself, does this thought serve me? In other words, do I want to live the outcome of this thought? Step 3: If the answer is no.. use Mental Tennis.
